Publications

The Publications Secretariat is set upon increasing the relevance and practicality of Malay Language, especially among the Malay-literate undergraduate population in NUS in general.

Akudeta.com, our official online journal, is spearheaded, maintained and supported by PBMUKS members. The online journal is a platform for undergraduates and other writers to contribute literary works; expressing their thoughts and ideas as well as discussing issues both contemporary and traditional.

Before making the switch to producing publications in cyber space, the Publications Secretariat had published the magazine ‘Salam’ in print media form. In tandem with the trend of seeking information virtually, we have moved to accommodate the medium of today’s publications.

Other than the online magazine, we have also spearheaded the annual camp ‘Perkampungan Bahasa’. The annual camp targeted at secondary school students will be held again in June 2010. It is here that students gain insight in the usage of both spoken and written Malay Language. The theme of camp varies each year with new elements introduced.

The Publications Secretariat’s latest development is the collaboration with Berita Harian in producing I³ and Gen. G, a subscription-based print magazine for primary and secondary levels. Through this magazine, the Publications Secretariat student writers hope to interact with and inspire the upcoming generation of movers and shakers in the Malay community. Our Secretariat believes that each individual holds the responsibility to preserve and propel the language forwards.
