The Secretariat of Performing Arts is one of the four secretariats under the NUS Malay Language Society. It was formed to provide Malay undergraduates in NUS an avenue for them to be involved in the arts. Besides that, our secretariat also aims to bring theatre as a part of the Malay tradition and culture.
One of our activities include Pentas Budaya, which is an annually-held theatrical production by NUS undergraduates. In this event, undergraduates are given the platform for them to expose their talents both onstage and offstage as actors, directors, producers and more.
This year, our secretariat will also be organising a new event. DR1101E: Introduction to Drama is a workshop opened to anybody who is interested in the art of drama and theatre. This workshop was organised to provide undergraduates a channel in which to learn the basic techniques and technicalities of acting and theatre. Furthermore, this workshop is also in line with our mission to engage the community through the arts.
Through these activities, we seek to allow the younger generation, particularly NUS undergraduates, a chance to appreciate the Malay arts and, hopefully, sustain its survival through these modern times.
Mission: Engage NUS undergraduates to use performing arts as a base to be connected to the community.
Vision: To uphold performing arts as a continuous building block of the Malay tradition.
The stage is always open,
