As one of the secretariat under PBMUKS, the Literary Arts wing has been holding competitions for students of all levels, especially for primary and post-secondary students. It is an avenue for students to improve their command of the Malay Language in today’s highly globalized world where English is often too emphasized. As users and future guardians of the Malay Language, it is then in our opinion that we are responsible to ensure the sustainability of the language for more generations to come so as the Malay Language will be everlasting.
Competitions that are scheduled to be held:
Malay Quatrain Competition
Specially opened for post secondary students which also include junior colleges, polytechnics, ITEs and madrasah students in a setting where students use quatrains to question and answer each other. This competition not only aims to relive the olden times where quatrains were part and parcel of the Malays but to also heighten the usage and introduce new methods of using it. This is in sync with today’s setting where sometimes the old is regarded too backdated and new methods have to be introduced to ensure its relevance.
Malay Oratorical Competition
This is arguably the only competition for budding primary school students to pit their oral skills against each other. Targeted at primary 5 and primary 6 students, they are required to talk and present their ideas in a toastmaster’s-like setting to an audience. This competition also aims to encourage the usage of good Malay Language especially from a young age. A workshop prior to the competition will be held in order to imbue students with the skills that are required to excel in this competition.
