“The youth will not die from tripping and slipping of his feet,
But the youth will die of slipping and tripping of the tongue.”
-An Anonymous Proverb
If many hold principles revolving around philosophies of lide, I hold principles revolving around conduct, morals and decorum. Not that philosophies of life isn’t important, but in voicing thoughts and emotions, sometimes we forget of our manners and the Malay adat of being polite or santun. Therefore I work towards manifesting the meaning of this proverb… such that many holds the perception that I am an introvert.
I would not deny that I am a quiet person. However one should not keep quite all the time, as it is sure that one has his own opinions. To me, PBMUKS is a good platform where I can express my opnions and put my skills and talents to good use, especially when it comes to the use of the Malay Language, and in organizing events, as well as engaging with the community. Perhaps what made me inclined to and interested in those areas, is the perception that as a youth today, I do hold the power and ability to shape the future of our society’s tomorrow.
Sometimes enthusiasm might take over practicality till we forget the unfeasabilities of the idea. Coming back to the proverb above, I feel that adopting a careful and meticulous yet cautious stand, as well as self-censorship towards whatever the issue, be it in behavior, conversations, even in thought, is always important. Being careful does not mean that we reject many ideas, but what is important is that the execution and thought process of an idea has to be systematic and well organizd and planned, ensuring that it does not cross any lines, and being labelled under ‘obsessive-compulsive’. (Actually, that is a personal tragic flaw of mine that I am trying to cast away.)
Lastly, as a servant of God Almighty, as someone who is only mortal with her imperfections, my actions are not always right, just or commendable, but I will continue to strive to be better, holding on to the proverb. With God’s will, it will help me serve and fulfill my responsibilities in the PBMUKS executive committee.
